The Balancing Act Recaps the 66th Grammy Awards

Music’s biggest night has come and gone once again. The 66th annual Grammy Awards were held at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night. Former Daily Show host, Trevor Noah hosted the award show once again. If you missed the Grammys, don’t worry! The Balancing Act has you covered. Here is a recap of the biggest awards on the night and musicians who walked away victorious.

Album of the Year

Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for “Midnights.” This was the “Fearless” singer’s fourth win in the category over her career, the most by any artist. Swift also won Best Pop Vocal Album earlier in the night. This was her 14th Grammy win.

Swift took the stage with Lana Del Ray and Jack Antonoff who were collaborators on the Grammy-winning album. “Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much,” said Swift.

The Grammy-winning artist continued to add a surprise no one was expecting. Swift announced her eleventh studio album called The Tortured Poets Department set to release on April 19.

Song of the Year

Billie Eilish accepted her Grammy for song of the year in shock. Eilish won for “What Was I Made For?” a song she made for the summer hit film Barbie.

“That was a crazy list of incredible people… incredible music,” Eilish said. Eilish very sweetly thanked Finneas, her brother, the fans, and Barbie director Greta Gerwig for the opportunity. The win was Eilish’s ninth Grammy win in her career. She also won best song written for visual media earlier in the night.

Record of the Year

Miley Cyrus was ecstatic for her first Grammy win in her career. Cyrus won Record of the Year for “Flowers.” Earlier in the night she took home the award for Best Pop Solo Performance. The “Wrecking Ball” singer took the stage to accept the award and made sure to thank “all the people that we love.”

“This award is amazing. But I really hope that it doesn’t change anything because life was beautiful yesterday. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular, she said. Cyrus went on to thank “everyone that’s standing on this stage right now Tom, Tyler, Michael, and Greg. Our teams, my team, Crush, Columbia, my mommy, my sister, my love, my main gays because look how good I look… Thank you all so much.”

Dr. Dre Global Impact Award

JAY-Z accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at this year’s Grammy Awards. During his acceptance, the rapper called out the Grammys for past snubs of his wife Beyonce’s music. “She has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year – that doesn’t work,” JAY-Z said. “When I get nervous, I tell the truth.”

The “Empire State of Mind” singer accepted the award with his daughter, Blue Ivy, by his side for the big moment. He continued that he was “honored” to accept the award and challenged musicians to “keep showing up… until they give you all those accolades you feel you deserve.”

Best Country Album of the Year

Lainey Wilson took home the 2024 Grammy for Best Country Album. The “Watermelon Moonshine” singer was shocked, to say the least. Wilson’s “Bell Bottom Country” is her fourth studio album. She won the Album of the Year honor already for both the ACM and CMA Awards
