The people have spoken! The 2024 People’s Choice Awards have come and gone. The general public voted on awards based on this year’s best movies, music, television, and pop culture. The award show aired on NBC, Peacock, and E! from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Simu Liu hosted the event, known as the Marvel superhero Shang-Chi.

This year, the award show expanded its categories to 45. If you missed the People’s Choice Awards don’t worry, here is a quick recap of the big night.

Movie of the Year – Barbie

Barbie went home with the biggest prize of the night for movies. The summer film has gotten high praise this award season. The Warner Bros. produced film was nominated for eight awards at this year’s Oscars. The Academy Awards are set to take place on March 10. America Ferrera won People’s Movie Performance of the Year. Ferrera played Gloria in the film. 

Show of the Year – Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy took home the award for Best Show of the Year for television category. The hit series wrapped its 19th season this past March 2023. The show will look a little different, however, heading into its 20th season. Meredith Grey, who is played by Ellen Pompeo will not be featured. Pompeo decision to leave the popular show was due to exhaustion.

Album of the Year – GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo went home with the honor of Album of the Year for her sophomore album ‘GUTS.’ This was the ‘Driver’s License’ singer’s third People’s Choice Award. Rodrigo won her first People’s Choice Award in 2021 for Best New Artist when her Grammy-winning album ‘SOUR’ was released. The pop star has slowly risen in fame and continues to receive nominations at the Grammy Awards.

Icon of the Year – Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler took home the top award of the night, the People’s Choice Icon Award. Sandler made light of the award during his speech explaining he thought he won ‘The people’s Sexist Man Alive Award.’ A long-time friend of Sandler, Jennifer Aniston presented the award to him. Sandler has been a household name for years starring in hit comedies like Billy Madison, Grown Ups, Happy Gilmore, That’s My Boy, Water Boy, Big Daddy, Uncut Gems, and many others.
