Elton John is officially a member of the EGOT club.

The singer, 76, won an Emmy Award for outstanding live variety special for “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.” This 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Elton John is now added to the short list of celebrities who have successfully earned an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. There are a total of 19 celebrities to have achieved this feat. Most recently, the most notable celebrity to achieve this milestone was Viola Davis. She won a Grammy in 2023 for her memoir “Finding Me.”

Other EGOT members include Richard Rodgers (1962), Helen Hayes (1977), Rita Moreno (1977), John Gielgud (1991), Audrey Hepburn (1993), Marvin Hamlisch (1995), Jonathan Tunick (1997), Mel Brooks (2001), Mike Nichols (2001), Whoopi Goldberg (2002), Scott Rudin (2012), Robert Lopez (2014), John Legend (2018), Andrew Lloyd Webber (2018), Tim Rice (2018), Alan (Menken (2020), and Jennifer Hudson (2022).

Elton John Accepting the Honor

The Emmy was presented by Amy Poehler. As she announced the winner, the comedian hinted at Sir Elton John‘s new status by saying, “Now I can’t speak for Elton but, ‘EGOT’ to be excited about that.”

The Rocket Man singer was not in attendance for the event. The special’s producers went up to receive the award on his behalf and said Elton “sent his love and thanks” to all the voters.

John was quick to release a statement following the event, “I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight. The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world.”

The Disney+ Special

“Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger’s Stadium debuted on Disney+ this past year. The special received three Emmy nominations. The concert was part of the singer’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. The show at Dodger Stadium was his third time performing at the iconic venue and marked his 2,000 U.S. concert. A huge milestone indeed! He also performed in Los Angeles, San Diego, Tacoma, Washington, and Santa Clara California.

“This year will see my grand finale in North America, playing stadiums all around the country, with the most spectacular production I’ve ever had,” he said during the tour. “Thank you for sharing this journey with me. I cherish the memories we’re making together. It has been nothing short of incredible and I look forward to seeing you very soon one last time, on my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.”

Who do you think will be the next star to join the EGOT club?
