Four Tips to Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

Have you ever had a New Year’s Resolution and then broken it? Don’t worry, we all have. It can be hard to keep a New Year’s Resolution for a full year. But this is the year we stop that cycle and make a change of following through. Here are four helpful tips to make sure you keep your New Year’s Resolution this year in 2024.

Make Sure It’s Realistic

Starting off with a friendly reminder. Make sure your New Year’s Resolution is realistic. The easiest way to fall short of your goal is to make your goal unattainable. For example, if your goal is to eat junk food, but your favorite snack is cookies then you are setting yourself up to fail. Instead, strive for a goal that is doable. Such as avoid doing it more often than you do now.

Make Your Resolution Measurable

It is important that you make your goal specific and measurable. For example, if you want to exercise more this year. You should set the amount of time you want to exercise each week. If you want to lose weight, make sure you know the exact weight you want to achieve. By having a goal that is measurable, you are more likely to achieve the goal. Seeing yourself inch your way closer to your goal will push you to work harder and stay on track.

If your goal is to exercise or lose weight, you can use an activity tracker on your phone. These apps will help you log your daily exercise and food intake.

Plan Your Goal

When setting a New Year’s Resolution, you want to plan it out. How will you achieve this goal? Tell yourself how you want to achieve your goals and how long it might take you to reach your goals. For example, if your resolution is to read three books a month then plan how much you have to read each day in order to reach your goal. Proper planning will help ensure that your goal is attainable.

Stay Positive

It can be difficult to cut things out in your life, but focusing on it in a negative way will only discourage you. Try not to think about how good your favorite dessert tastes or how you will be all sweaty after a session at the gym. Believe in yourself and that your goal is attainable. Try to remind yourself of the benefits and impact achieving your goal will have on your life. Focusing on positives will help you stick to your New Year’s Resolution.
