Dolly Parton has done it again. But what did you expect? Anything Dolly touches turns to gold, it seems. The iconic country singer released new music and dipped her toes in new water with her first Rock album, “Rockstar.”
Nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
The new album was in honor of Dolly being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year. While it is a huge honor, the icon originally rejected the induction, claiming she was undeserving of the honor. Parton felt as if she was “betraying someone else” with her nomination.
Dolly Parton was hesitant to accept the nomination because none of her music work was in the genre of rock. However, many non-rock artists have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame including Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Elton John, and Billy Joel, to name a few. So, the nomination of country legend Dolly Parton wasn’t out of the ordinary. While many non-rock artists have been inducted over the years, Parton felt she had to do her part to make it right with her own Rock album. She didn’t want to be held to the same level of rock as Ozzy Osbourne or Guns N’ Roses.
Featured Artists on ‘Rockstar’
“Rockstar” was released on Nov. 17, a little over a year since Parton received the Hall of Fame nomination. It is a thank-you letter to rock music with almost the entire album covers and collaboration with big-name musicians. Some artists on the album are Ann Wilson of Heart, Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Miley Cyrus, Beatles members Paul McCartney and Ringo Star, Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, and countless other music legends.
Dolly’s distinct country drawl offers a unique take on some of rock’s most classic songs. The album was produced by Big Machine Records and was her 49th studio album. Parton has made a mark of music, built a business empire, and done anything she set her mind to. She is an inspiration for many. While this album is not intended to win many awards, it offers a fun take on rock classics with collaboration from music icons.
Yup. The Queen of Country Music has done it again.
