Spotlight Time: Harrison Ford Honored at Critics Choice Awards

The legendary actor, Harrison Ford, was honored with a career achievement award at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday Night.

Harrison Ford’s Acceptance Speech

Ford, 81, received a standing ovation from the room after a video compilation of his work from some of his biggest films played.

“First of all, I’m really happy to be here tonight to see what our business is turning into, and all of the talented people who are getting opportunities that wouldn’t have existed in the early part of my career,” he said.

Ford explained the reason he got to where he is today is “a combination of luck and the work of wonderful writers, directors, and filmmakers. I feel enormously lucky. I’m happy for this honor, and I appreciate it very much.”

Ford Thanks His Wife

The Indiana Jones actor also took the time to thank a few people in his life, including his wife, Calista Flockhart, for offering him “support” throughout his career.

“I want to thank my lovely wife, Calista Flockhart, who supports me when I need a lot of support. And I need a lot of support.”

He continued, “I’m deeply happy to have had the opportunities that I’ve had, and I’m grateful.”

James Mangold’s Kind Words

The award was presented to him by Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold.

“A hypergiant is so big that five billion of our suns can be contained within it, and they’re so weighty that they pull other heavenly bodies toward them,” Mangold said. “Of course, Harrison Ford is a star, but I submit tonight that he is a variable hypergiant.”

The director mentioned the impact of Ford’s resume, naming films like American Graffiti, Blade Runner, Witness, Working Girl, Air Force One, The Fugitive, Patriot Games, and Apocalypse Now. The Chicago native actor has been a household name for decades by playing unforgettable characters Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise and of course, Indiana Jones. During his career, he has grossed nearly $10 billion worldwide at the box office.

Critics Choice Awards 2024

The Critics Choice Awards was hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler. The event honors the excellence in film and television within the last year. Barbie had a record-setting 18 nominations, from best actress for Margot Robbie to best supporting actor for Ryan Gosling. Oppenheimer and Poor Things earned 13 nominations on the night. The award show took place at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California.
