Star Wars fans had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get their hands on cinema history. Anthony Daniels who portrayed the iconic Star Wars droid C-3PO, sold his personal memorabilia collection. He nearly auctioned off 200 items ranging from props, costumes, and scripts. The big piece of the collection was the head of the beloved character C-3PO. This was the head that Daniels wore in the 1977 film, Star Wars: A New Hope as C-3PO. A few other notable props were more parts of his C-3PO costume, Daniels’ original Star Wars script, and pieces of the Millennium Falcon.

Why did Anthony Daniels Sell His Star Wars Items?

When he was asked why he decided to part ways from his collection he said, “I realized I had these items and they’re not unloved, but they are unlooked at — we don’t have them crowding the sitting room. Will I feel sad to part with them? No. I will enjoy the fact people will cherish and display them.”

C-3PO Head Sold

The head of C-3PO, used in 1977’s “Star Wars” movie was expected to sell for up to $1.2 million. Last week, the prop sold for around $800,000 at auction. This wasn’t even in the ballpark for the most expensive piece sold from the Star Wars franchise. In October 2023, a lost X-Wing from A New Hope sold for a record-setting $3.135 million.

The action also included pieces of the Millennium Falcon Daniels took from the set. “I did rescue those pieces of the Millennium Falcon from a bonfire at the back of Elstree Studios after production finished on Return of the Jedi,” Daniels said to BBC
