Robert Downey Jr. Has No Plans to Slow Down his acting career.

Robert Downey Jr. is officially an Oscar winner. Downey Jr. won Best Supporting Actor at the 2024 Oscars for his role in Oppenheimer. The blockbuster film won seven awards during Hollywood’s biggest night including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director. But the Oscar-winning actor is excited to show fans what is coming next.

What’s Next for Downey Jr.

“I got a couple other tricks up my sleeve,” the actor said in an interview with PEOPLE. The Iron Man star is starring in the upcoming HBO series ‘The Sympathizer’ based on the bestselling 2015 novel from Viet Thanh Nguyen. The miniseries will premiere on April 14.

Downey lost weight, shaved his head, and changed the way he walked to portray Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer. But the actor goes even further in this new role in ‘The Sympathizer.’

“It wasn’t particularly subtle, it wasn’t meant to be, but I’m already proud of what I’ve seen,” says Downey Jr.

Relationship with His Wife Susan

The Marvel actor and his wife, Susan Downey, spoke at the post-Oscar party the Governor’s Ball about the new project.

“We’re just getting started,” Susan said. She is a producer on with Downey Jr. on ‘The Sympathizer.’

“We talk about it all the time,” she says. “There’s so many more things we want to do together and achieve together and play together, create together.”

The actor clearly enjoys working with his wife, whom he shares two children with. During his Oscars win speech, he toasted his family including his three kids and his “veterinarian, I mean wife,” Susan.

“She found me a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here,” he continued.

How They Met

The couple met on the 2003 film ‘Gothika,’ after Downey had been going through a rough patch of his life with drug addiction. He credits her for the second act of his career, which includes his iconic performance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man and in the blockbuster franchise Sherlock Holmes.
