Home Alone (1990)

A Christmas favorite for many is Home Alone. This story follows Kevin McCallister who hopes for his family to disappear after they banish him to the attic the night before their big holiday trip. By accident, his family does, indeed, disappear. Well, in a sense, at least. They left him all alone at home. However, he took it with a grain of salt and turned it into a staycation.

His staycation was the ultimate fantasy for a kid. That is until ‘the wet bandits’ showed up at the door. The rest is history from here. Home Alone is the classic of classics when it comes to Christmas movies, but let’s be honest, everyone can enjoy this movie any time of the year.

Though it’s been several years since this movie came out, Culkin has recently been making headlines. Macaulay Culkin, who played Kevin McCallister, was added to the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier this month.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)

There have been many adaptations of this iconic Christmas story, but none are like the original animated classic from 1966. This story was created by the legendary Dr. Seuss and Chuck Jones.

These two creators’ taste together was the perfect match for this story. Jones, the animator for the film gave a unique style to the characters that brought Dr. Seuss’s characters to life. In 2000, Universal Pictures released a live-action adaptation of the film starring Jim Carey. Almost 18 years later, the studio did another adaptation this time an animated version starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

There’s always some debate around which version is better. However, there’s not been a clear winner. We suppose that means you have to watch all three of them!

Elf (2003)

When it comes to finding the best Christmas movies, it’s not a coincidence that most of them are family movies. Elf is a great example of that. Considered one of the best Christmas movies this century, Elf has slowly made its way into consideration as a Christmas classic.

Will Ferrell portrays ‘Buddy the Elf,’ an oversized Elf who leaves the North Pole in hopes of contacting his father. During his journey, ‘Buddy the Elf’ makes friends and experiences ‘the real world’ for the first time.

This movie will have you laughing your socks off.

Honorable Mentions

Some other honor mentions are It’s A Wonderful Life, Frosty the Snowman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer, and A Christmas Story. With so many other notable films we didn’t mention, it can be tough to settle on exactly which one you’re in the mood for. But one thing is for certain, all these films will get you into the Christmas spirit!
