Mother’s Day is approaching, and if you’re looking for the perfect stay-at-home plans to celebrate, how about a girls’ movie night? Bring out the popcorn, grab the wine, get some chocolate, and lounge out with mom!

Of course, the only thing missing is the “right” movie—but don’t worry, you have come to the right place! To help your decision process, we’ve round up our favorite Mother’s Day movies. Read on, to find a film that will match perfectly with the evening you want to create for the mom in your life!

COMEDY

Laughing is always great, but sharing a laugh with your mother or daughter is priceless! So, if you are looking for a lighthearted, funny movie to keep the evening upbeat, these are some of our favorite comedic movies.

Girls Trip (2017)

When four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling, and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.

Freaky Friday (1976; 2003)

A rock-star daughter and a working single mother switch bodies overnight, making their turbulent relationship…complicated, to say the least.

How to Be Single (2016)

If both your mom and you are single, this one is for you! Rejoice in singledom, by watching this story of young adults navigating love and relationships in New York City. (The hilarious Rebel Wilson gives a priceless performance!)

ROMANCE

Who doesn’t love a great romance story? If you are looking for some tears to shed over a beautiful couple, you will surely love these suggestions.

The Notebook (2004)

We know for a fact you have watched this one. And if not, you have heard of it. This wouldn’t be a real romance movie list if it didn’t include The Notebook! However, if you are part of the 1% of the population that doesn’t know this movie, it is about a wealthy girl who meets a mill worker and falls in love with him. However, once he goes away to fight in World War II, everyone believes their relationship to be over.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Telling the story of a high-class escort who lives in NYC and meets a delightful young man living in her building. However, conflicts of interest make their romance complicated, as he is with a wealthy older woman and Holly is searching for an older rich man to marry.

13 Going on 30 (2004)

After wishing to escape the life of a teenager, Jenna wakes up in the body of a much older woman, who is her, but in the future. This allows her to live out her fantasy of being a “well-adjusted” woman but finds out her love life isn’t as easy as it seems.

LIGHTHEARTED

Although these movie suggestions are light-hearted, some are just classic, girly, and timeless. Below are three films that are always great ideas to watch alone, with a girlfriend, and especially with mom!

Little Women (1949, 1994, 2019)

This classic story will warm your heart. (We’re partial to the 1994 version, for its stellar cast and performances…including a very young Christian Bale.)

Stepmom (1998)

We all know that family relations can be very complicated. When the parents of two children divorce and the father starts dating someone else, the Harrison family undergoes a very tumultuous conflict.

Charlie’s Angels (2000)

Three women who are trained and equipped with lethal weapons, disguises, martial arts, and sports vehicles are on a mission to save a kidnapped man and prevent the world from a disaster. The trio goes on amazing adventures together, showing others who is the boss.

Now that you have all these amazing movie ideas to watch with your mom or daughter, you won’t have to spend hours looking through Netflix or Hulu trying to figure out what to watch.
