The Balancing Act Highlights: CMT Music Awards

The annual Country Music Awards show took place last night at the Moody Center in Austin Texas. The award show aired live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Kelsea Ballerini hosted the show and country music’s biggest stars attended.

The CMT Music Awards had first-time nominees including Amber Riley, Ashley Cooke, Bret Michaels, Chayce Beckham, Hozier, Koe Wetzel, Stephen Wilson Jr., Tyler Childers, Warren Zeiders, and Zach Bryan. Kelsea Ballerini, Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, and Megan Moroney led the night with the most nominations with three each.

Performers

There was a plethora of performers at the 2024 CMT Music Awards including Jason Aldean, Bailey Zimmerman, Keith Urban, Jordan Davis, Sam Hunt, Old Dominion, and many others.

The show made a tribute to the late country music icon, Toby Keith, who passed away from stomach cancer earlier this year. Brooks & Dunn and Sammy Hagar sang a song together on stage to honor the late singer.

Jelly Roll

Jelly Roll took home the award for video of the year, Male Video of the Year, and CMT performance of the year all for his hit song “Need a Favor.” Last year, the Grammy-nominated artist won male video of the Year, Male Breakthrough Video of the Year, and CMT digital-first Performance of Year for his single “Son of a Sinner.”

Lainey Wilson

Lainey Wilson won Female Video of the Year for the second year in a row. She took home the award for “Watermelon Moonshine,” last year she won for “Heart like a Truck.”

Dan + Shay

The Duo/Group video of the year went to Dan + Shay this year for “Save Me the Trouble.” The duo won the award previously in 2018 for “Tequila,” 2019 for “Speechless,” and 2020 for “I Should Probably Go to Bed.”

Ashley Cooke and Warren Zeiders

Newcomers Ashely Cooke and Warren Zeiders won the awards for Breakthrough Female and Male Video of the Year. Past winners in this category have gone on to have successful careers including Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown Band, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, Ashley McBryde, and others.
