Nonprofit Gives Deserving Kids One Unforgettable Night
A Prom to Remember is an event founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, that gives kids who are battling cancer or are cancer survivors an opportunity to celebrate their life in an environment of acceptance and camaraderie. Founder Brandon Opre has since helped A Prom to Remember spread to Cleveland, Boston and Philadelphia. Follow along as we see how A Prom to Remember helps turn 16-year-old Madison White’s dream into a reality not once, but twice.
The prom in South Florida is held annually at the Ritz-Carlton for kids age 12 to 19 at no cost to the kids or their families. Seven local hospitals team up with local businesses to put on A Prom to Remember. The kids are treated like movie stars: They arrive in limousines, get interviewed by local media on the red carpet, are escorted by professional athletes and cheerleaders from local sports teams, and then dance the night away.
