Self-Care Cafe: Mommy’s Day Off
September 9, 2022
Each of us needs a break from our daily routine, from time to time; and there’s no shame in it! Burnout is a real issue and can happen when we are constantly overworking ourselves and not getting enough rest or peace. It is more common nowadays for people to encourage you to work yourself to your limits, instead of encouraging you to take a break to take care of yourself. However, this can cause serious health, mental, and even physical issues!
Sometimes, all we need is someone to take us by our shoulder and say, “It’s okay to take a break and take care of yourself,” and we are here to do just that.
Being an adult is hard, so today we are here to encourage you to take a break and spend a day relaxing!
Step 1: Ask yourself: What do I need from my day off? Is it time to feed your soul with relaxation? With fun? With peaceful meditation? The options here are endless. Taking a break means many different things to many different people. Although your friends might see a day off as going to the beach and relaxing by the ocean, you might think of it as cleaning the house to your favorite jams. To get the full benefits of your break from daily life, you need to think about what you want and what you need.
Step 2: Don’t let anything (or anyone) disturb your peace. When you have a day off, you don’t want anything messing up your plans. The last thing you want is to be stressed or pulled into a situation that will make your day off feel like another working day. Get ahead of this by setting boundaries and informing your acquaintances know that you are taking the day to yourself, and to only call you if there is an emergency. This way, no one can disturb your peace.
Step 3: Set an intention for your day off and follow it through! Now that everything is arranged, there are no excuses. Take that day off, remind yourself of what you need from it and how you want to feel when you get out of it! You’re going to feel much better, after you’ve given yourself this chance to recharge your batteries.
It’s not that complicated, right? Now you have your guide, arrangements, intentions, and you’re ready to go! Soak up every blissful second of your day off—and remember, this day is about you and you only.
