6 Tips To Being A Savvy Saver
July 27, 2015
Everyone loves shopping, but savings don’t have to be limited to clothes.
The Balancing Act put together a list of tips for the savvy savers out there, so you can save anywhere and everywhere:
Hotel Rooms: Call the hotel directly and speak to an on-duty manager. Once you’ve got them on the phone, simply tell him/her that you’re shopping for a great room rate during a specific week and ask what he/she can do for you. Chances are, they will give you a discounted room rate.
Air Travel: When booking airfare, keep in mind that Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are generally cheaper because less business people are traveling, which means more seats are available.
Electronics: If you don’t mind last year’s model, shop between April and the end of the summer to save between 20 and 30 percent on specific items.
Dinner Out: The biggest savings on dinner are available Tuesday, as it is the day restaurants are least crowded. Plus, since food deliveries usually arrive early in the week, the food is often fresher on Tuesday!
Cars: Head to the dealership on the last Tuesday or Wednesday of the month as dealerships are getting anxious about meeting their monthly quotas and will often discount their vehicles.
Linens and beddings: January used to be called “January White Sales”, a term coined by John Wanamaker – an early pioneer in the department store concept. Wanamaker promoted sales on specific months to keep turnover high and prices low. The term is still used today and several major retailers still follow this tradition.
