If you’re somebody who works all day, you probably know how hard it is to unwind. Some of us don’t unwind at all!

We pile so many things onto our plate that by the time we have to get to bed, we’re still trying to check things off of our to-do list. We’re on autopilot to the point where we aren’t immersing ourselves in our own lives anymore. How can anyone feel present at this pace?

It is understandable to find it challenging to truly relax and be present. So, to help you out, here are three simple steps that can enhance your life.

1.Learn to Meditate
Yes, it’s time. You’ve heard it your whole adult life. Yet, you might’ve found closing your eyes for sixty seconds pointless. Well, that’s in the past now. Take this blog as your sign that you need to find a meditation technique that works. Understand that sitting on the floor with your eyes shut is not a good way to meditate when you first start out. Instead, there are hundreds of meditation styles to choose from. There is an app, for example, called Stellar Sleep, created for insomniacs. What most people don’t know is that in the app, there are eight brilliant and helpful meditations to choose from that we 100 percent approve of for beginners. Some are stretching meditations, while other methods incorporate your ability to focus. However, the best place to start on your mediation journey is with Gratitude or the “Gratitude by Gary” meditation. The “Gratitude by Gary” meditation will remind you of every beautiful and simple privilege in your life. It prompts you to relax while reassuring you that you have an abundance of things to be grateful for — and that you deserve each and every one of them. That is the truth. Imagine if you went through your daily life believing that? Whether it’s with Gary, or you find another meditation technique you prefer, all that matters is that you take a moment for yourself. Nevertheless, begin by starting and ending the day with gratitude.

2.Say ‘No’
If you haven’t hopped on the “staying in for a self-care night” train, you most definitely should. The fear of missing out is real. We know how real FOMO can feel. And telling your friends you can’t hang out can be really hard if you feel like you’re going to miss out on the night to end all nights. But can we let you in on a little secret? It will probably be a night that looks like all the other nights. Surely, there will be more. Now, what you don’t always get is a moment to yourself. We’re talking about no friends, no romantic partner – sure you can bring your dog –, but no other human, just yourself. This kind of night is about doing all of your favorite activities. This might look like you taking a bath, throwing on a face mask, and watching your favorite film. You can also try writing in your journal and reflecting on where you’re at in life. Overall, the most important thing is that you’re spending alone time with yourself. These moments give you independence and peace; they make you a better person. They make you present.

P.S. Stay away from social media!

3.Don’t Take Life Too Seriously – Live in the Moment
At the end of the day, we’re all trying our best. Your best will look different every single day. Some days, you might not be feeling like doing much and that’s fine! Never be too hard on yourself. You have to take everything in life day by day. There is only so much preparing you can do. You can plan – but don’t live in the future.

Joy is found in the moment. You’ll find your most productive when you’re focusing on what is right in front of you.

Remember, almost nothing is important enough for you to spend an entire day worrying about it. Instead, focus on you. Focus on what you can control – and move on.

Love,
