Marc Buoniconti: From Tragedy to Triumph

Three decades after suffering a devastating spinal cord injury on the football field, Marc Buoniconti visits The Balancing Act to talk about his life, his mission, and his goals to find a cure for paralysis and walk again one day.

Buoniconti, the son of NFL legend Nick Buoniconti, was following in his father’s footsteps as a young college football player. But one day, tragedy struck. All it took was one tackle to change his life forever; ultimately, he was left paralyzed from the neck down. But Buoniconti’s spirit was far from crushed, and his drive to be a positive force for change hasn’t let up since.

Buoniconti’s injury was the genesis of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and the Buoniconti Fund, which has raised more than $450 million for research and is gearing up to open a rehabilitation facility in South Florida. Buoniconti also recently released a book, Undefeated: From Tragedy to Triumph, which chronicles his life post-injury.
