“Let’s Move Together” is the new slogan for a nationwide campaign from the Arthritis Foundation. The concept is to empower individuals who suffer from arthritis by engaging everyone in our country to get moving.
Physical fitness is recommended by most health experts as a way to maintain optimal health and weight. For some individuals, physical activities are a chore; for others, they are a labor of love. Then there are the 46 million people who suffer from arthritis and find physical movement to be truly painful. A debilitating disease, arthritis is the nation’s most common cause of disability and affects all ages including 300,000 children.
As the nation’s leading nonprofit organization working to address arthritis, The Arthritis Foundation recently launched the “Let’s Move Together” campaign to make a difference in the fight against arthritis. The Balancing Act eagerly joined in on this initiative for empowering individuals to take control of a disease that is so widespread but often over-looked when it comes to prevention and treatment.
Special guests on the show include Jennifer Vido, who was diagnosed with arthritis at age 8 (30 years ago) and Evander Holyfield, the former heavyweight champion of the world and a recent contestant on the television program Dancing with the Stars. Both of these guests share personal stories about how arthritis can affect an individual or family, as well as the role that exercise can play in improving mobility, easing joint pain and reducing the fatigue that is associated with arthritis.
