Spring is the perfect opportunity to ask yourself - Is it time to renew my commitment to leading a healthier lifestyle?
Leading busy lives often gives us an excuse why we can’t be regularly physically active, and prevents many of us from making or keeping those commitments. The American Council on Exercise® (ACE®) offers a wealth of information to help get us back on track with exercise as well as proper sleep habits:
• Get Proper Sleep! 7-8 hours of sleep per night is optimal for most people. Did you know that sleep also plays a vital role when it comes to weight loss? Research shows that a lack of sleep may contribute to weight gain or even increased appetite because it causes disruptions to a number of hormonal and metabolic processes.
• Be flexible! Try breaking up exercise into three 10 minute bouts throughout the day, for instance, try 10 minutes of pushups, lunges, or squats in the morning, take a 10 minute brisk walk during your lunch break at work, and unwind with 10 minutes of yoga-inspired stretching in the evening. You can reap just as many benefits from this method as exercising continuously for 30 minutes.
• Think Positive! You are more likely to cope with stress more effectively, and stick with an active, healthy lifestyle long term with a positive mindset
The American Council on Exercise® (ACE®) recommends incorporating good sleep and exercise habits into our daily routines for maximum benefits like having more energy, looking and feeling better, and even increasing our lifespan.
